We hear a lot about “fake news” in this heated political climate, but that term is really a symptom of the lack of media literacy in a digital age where information is instant. First, participants will dig into the latest data from social science researchers, see how their media literacy skills measure up to the average adult American, and leave with the knowledge needed to ground their teaching practice in up-to-date research. Then participants will experience sample lessons – based on the research and advice of media literacy experts and emotional intelligence scholars – to bring critical media literacy skills to the classroom so students are able to make informed decisions about the media that bombards them every day.
